Angel Olsen is the perfect example of how an artist can write himself beyond his own time. How one can still, with small means, create the largest of imprints with the smallest of means as long as the expression is filterless. With precisely sculpted lines of text, an above-earth empathy and a voice that in every syllable manages to convey absolute concern, Angel Olsen is almost like an indie rock’s Dolly Parton. Full of jukebox romance, extravagant hair sets but always with a direct channel to the hearts of those who take the time to really listen.
Angel Olsen grew up in St. Louis, Missouri where she got her musical education in folk music. Teenage Angel soon started playing acoustic in various cafes, an era documented on the album ‘Half Way Home’ from 2012. But it was with ‘Burn Your Fire For No Witness’ (2014) and especially ‘MY WOMAN’ (2016) as Angel Olsen began to expand his expression with indie rock, synths and flirting with girlpop. In 2019 came All Mirrors and the following year a new interpretation of the same album which contributed another piece of the puzzle for those who want to understand Olsen’s artistry.
On October 9, Angel Olsen will come to Sweden for a long-awaited gig at in The Ballroom at Berns in Stockholm, tickets out now!
