JAMES BAY TO BERNS
We have already seen various sides of James Bay. First as the popular and acclaimed singer-songwriter with the debut ‘Chaos And The Calm’ from 2015 where Bay over fragile pick guitars sang songs of romance, hope and fear. But even though the record was showered with awards and songs like ‘Let It Go’ and ‘Hold Back The River’ received billions of streams, the British super talent was already on his way elsewhere. The follow-up ‘Electric Light’ from 2018 is louder with its electric guitars and cinematic synth mats. As in the painfully enchanting ‘Us’ which by this point has probably set more weddings than you can count.
On his latest album ‘Leap’ (2022), James Bay returns to the more folk vibe – with the acoustic guitars and campfire vibes, the result is his best record to date. Although emotional power has never been in short supply in his music, he has never been quite this honest and vulnerable.
