We are actively working to meet the criteria set by Green Key, which includes ensuring that 100% of our showers have a water flow rate of no more than 9 liters per minute. Additionally, at least eight of the food products offered at breakfast are organic, eco-labeled, fair trade, or locally produced, with at least half of these being organic. We also prioritize gender equality and diversity perspectives in our recruitment processes. These practices, among many others, are integral to maintaining our Green Key certification, as we consider sustainability to be a vital aspect of our operations.
Green Key is an international ecolabel within the tourism and hospitality industry and present in more than 50 countries worldwide.
The label is internationally managed by Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) who is partnered by some of the world’s foremost organizations within the fields of environment and education, such as UNEP, UNESCO and the World Tourism Organization.
The ecolabel is nationally operated by the organization Green Key Sweden and all Green Key establishments must be approved by an independent jury. All establishments are also checked through frequent audits, to ensure the compliance of the criteria.

In line with Green Key’s sustainability standards, Berns embraces a thoughtful approach to interior design by reusing furnishings and renovating existing interiors rather than purchasing new items. This conscious choice not only preserves the unique charm and historical elegance of our boutiquehotell in Stockholm, but also reduces our environmental impact. By giving new life to quality materials, we strike a balance between timeless style and responsible hospitality.
To uphold our Green Key certification, Berns has appointed a dedicated Environmental Officer from within our team. This individual plays a key role in driving our sustainability efforts forward—overseeing environmental practices, engaging staff in eco-friendly initiatives, and ensuring that our operations align with Green Key standards. By integrating environmental responsibility into our daily routines, we continue to raise the bar for conscious hospitality in Stockholm’s most iconic boutique hotel.
As part of our commitment to the Green Key environmental standards, Berns has implemented regular maintenance routines to ensure the efficient use of water throughout the property. Our team conducts frequent inspections to identify and promptly repair dripping faucets and showers, running toilets, or any signs of leakage from pools or other water features. These proactive measures not only help us minimize water waste but also reflect our dedication to preserving natural resources.
